Planning Your Trip

Many ghost towns are located in remote areas with limited cellular reception. Towns frequently have no facilities or staff, so you may not be able to find food or use restrooms easily. Planning your trip carefully ensures you will be ready for any contingencies. The recommendations below will help you prepare for your trip.

It is highly recommended that you travel with offline maps: either using a GPS, maps downloaded in advance on your phone, or paper maps. You may lose cellular service and need to reference your location on a map. Make sure to travel with sufficient food and water, and other emergency supplies. Leave sufficient travel time on windy back roads and do not travel in inclement weather.

Use the map below to reference the locations of ghost towns in the Ghost Town index. You can zoom in on towns to see what types of facilities are nearby, including food, lodging, and campgrounds.
